Preparing to Work in Schools - Level 1 Award (CACHE)
What does the qualification cover?
This qualification prepares learners for further learning and training whilst developing an understanding of the teaching and learning environment in a school setting. It covers areas such as how to support the well-being of a child or young person and child and young person’s development.
Learners will spend the first 2 weeks completing a free separate short course (10 hours) in preparing for placement. This will allow learners to gain essential skills and to provide an overview of what to expect when working in schools. Successful learners then progress to. the main course.
Who is it suitable for?
This qualification is aimed at a range of learners who are thinking of working in a school setting including young people, mature learners, learners with special educational needs or where English is an additional language.
What are the entry requirements?
Learners must be at least 16 years old. You must have or be working towards English at Level 1 or above and maths at Entry 3 or above.
Do you need to be working to take this qualification?
This is a knowledge only qualification. Learners do not need to be working or undertaking practical placements to take this qualification, although a volunteer placement is recommended.
How is this qualification structured?
This qualification will be delivered as part of a package and learners will be expected to attend English and maths sessions on a different day.
How is it assessed?
This qualification will be internally assessed using a range of methods, which could include written assignments or tasks such as designing a leaflet or booklet, charts or diagrams, or setting up an information board.
How long does it take to complete?
190 hours (38 weekly sessions of 5 hours)
What qualification can you progress to?
Learners can progress onto the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning.

You will need to complete a written assessment and undertake a one to one discussion prior to enrolling onto a course. This is mandatory for all learners.
