Digital Photography - Beginners
These courses are aimed at beginners with little or no experience with photography. The courses will introduce you to basic photography techniques, features on cameras and basic editing methods.
You will be expected to work independently and engage in group tasks in order to develop your skills and knowledge. The course covers a range of techniques, skills, and an awareness of employment opportunities in the subject.
It is hands-on practical courses with regular enrichment visits to develop your camera skills further.
Materials needed for first lesson: Camera or phone with camera.
Photography – Beginners
This course is aimed at beginners with little or no experience with photography.
The course will introduce you to basic techniques how to take better images as well as learning how to use a camera and take creative control. You will explore how photography can and does bring issues to the public: wildlife, environment and people.
Materials needed for first lesson: Camera or phone with camera.
Photography – Intermediate
This course is aimed at learners who have completed a beginners course or have relevant experience with photography. The course will aim to develop and further your camera skills.
You will be expected to work independently and engage in group tasks in order to develop your skills and knowledge. The course covers a range of techniques, skills, and an introduction to different genres including architecture, landscape, close up, and portrait photography.
Materials needed for first lesson: Camera or phone with camera.
Image Editing using Lightroom and Photoshop
This course is aimed at learners who has completed photography beginners and intermediate and/or have the relevant experience. This course aims to organise and enhance your images using image editing software. You will learn how to plan your image taking with post processing in mind.
It is a hands-on practical course with research activities to consider both classic and current trends (including history, culture, diversity, online research techniques etc.):
You will explore how photographic images can and do bring issues to the public: wildlife, environment and people.

Interest in the creative arts and a willingness to experiment and try new techniques. There are no formal entry requirements.

If you are looking to start a career in photography the work created during these courses can be a start to accessing Further Education courses in Art and Design. Our tutors can help provide information and guidance about this pathway.
Initial course resources / additional cost
Some tools and equipment are available for your use at the centre. However, you may need to purchase some extra tools and materials for your particular art projects, this will be discussed with your tutor if required. Having your own camera is expected.
