Workskills: Taking part in an interview
Course aims
The route to employment always includes being successful at interview. An interview can be something that fills even the most confident of individuals with fear. By being prepared and knowing what to expect you can greatly increase your chances of getting that job. This unit will introduce you to the key parts of the interview process and give you the skills to improve your chances of success.
In this unit, you will understand your own skills, knowledge and career goals and how these fit in with an organisation. You will prepare for an interview and demonstrate your skills and experience in an interview situation.
Course length
20 guided learning hours at 2 hours per week.
Who is this course for?
BTEC Workskills suite of qualifications have been designed to offer learners a flexible programme of study to improve their understanding and application of employability skills. These qualifications have been developed to ensure that the knowledge, skills and understanding they provide are relevant, current and useful for learners and potential employers. Learners have the opportunity to follow a flexible course and achieve a nationally recognised Entry 3 vocationally-related qualification. On completion of one of these qualifications, learners have the opportunity to progress to related general and/or vocational qualifications, or employment in a particular vocational sector.
Will I gain any qualifications?
Yes - Successful candidates will receive Pearson Workskills E3 Qualification.
Do I need any prior knowledge, skills or qualifications?
No, however you do need a reasonable standard of English to write and communicate.
Course content
To achieve the qualification, you must complete:
- Identify how to present information at an interview, questions to ask and how to respond to questions positively.
- Communicate and use appropriate behaviours
- Appreciate the need for appropriate appearance
- Respond positively to an interview situation
What could this course lead to?
On completion of these qualifications’ learners may progress into employment or other Workskills unit or be studying this unit as part of a vocational course.
How will I learn?
- Learning will take place online from your home using Birmingham Adult Education Services Virtual Learning Environment (VLE - Moodle) which is a secure online tool to support you with your studies. It has been designed to complement teaching and offers a flexible addition to studying with us. Various other tools like Microsoft Teams & Padlet will be used to enhance teaching & learning.
- You will be able to access resources, engage in online activities, study independently, and participate in group discussions with your teacher. You will record your own progress and have your work checked regularly throughout the course.
- Once you are enrolled your teacher will provide you with an enrolment key and show you how to access the resource.
What materials or equipment will I need to provide?
You will need to have access at home to:
- A laptop or a computer which is connected to the internet
- Microsoft Office 2016 installed on your laptop
- Notepad and pen – you will need to take notes during the online sessions and a folder to store hand-outs and completed exercises
What we require of you as a learner?
- Regular attendance is essential for you to succeed
- Work at home will need to be completed punctually and sent to your tutor for marking
- You will need to ensure that you allow sufficient time for self-study and complete any homework set
- You will be expected to complete all end of unit exams and complete the full course
Support if you are registered unemployed, looking for a job or a better job – Route to Work
As part of your programme of learning, we will support you to develop the skills you need to get a job or a better job, such as CV writing, application forms, interviews and working in a team. Your tutor will discuss your individual learning and development needs to agree with you which of our Route to Work short courses will best suit your needs and enrol you on these modules.
