Having escaped war-torn Ukraine to begin a new life in the UK, Valentyna started to learn English in a community project run by BAES.
After finishing her ESOL Communication class, as a result of her diligence and competency, it was decided she should skip a level and go straight to Entry 3 level.
It proved to be a great decision. During the first term Valentyna excelled again and emerged as one of the most capable students in her new class.
Valentyna is studious, ambitious and highly motivated to be the best she can be. She is always early, attends regularly, does her homework and takes her learning seriously. Despite her self-sufficiency and shy and quiet nature, Valentyna has the confidence to ask for clarification, collaborate with others and make valuable contributions in class.
Outside the classroom, Valentyna is immersing herself in the English language by watching English movies and reading English books. Apart from making excellent progress with her English, Valentyna has been applying for jobs and attending interviews, albeit at a lower level than her qualifications from Ukraine would allow. We are delighted that she has just secured part-time employment with a supermarket.
Valentyna will continue her studies with us and move up to ESOL Level 1 and then English Functional Skills or even GCSE, but after that, the world is her oyster!
