When Ella came to her first cookery class at the beginning of 2023 she had no previous baking experience.
After her first lesson, she was completely hooked and enrolled on every baking and cake decoration course she could find.
Previously Ella had worked in the Care Sector but had to give up her job after a serious cycling accident. At home with no job, she became isolated, developing low self-esteem and anxiety.
Looking to get back out into the world, she contacted Erdington Centre about a cake decorating course. She immediately felt at home and devoured every bit of new knowledge. She would then go home and practise until she achieved perfection. Ella was like a sponge, but one that retains everything!
Attending the courses has helped Ella to re-invent herself and find a new purpose in life. As well as developing fantastic culinary skills, she has found the courses therapeutic and her tutor’s belief in her a huge motivation.
As a result of Ella's new skills and confidence, she and her partner are about to open Merlin's a unique fantasy horror-themed café/restaurant in Birmingham City Centre. We are so proud of Ella’s new enterprise. We know she has the skills and determination to make it a success.
